Caņo Negro, Costa Rica

Marietta College Biology and Environmental Science Department Field Trip 2005/2007

Caņo Negro is a preserve in the northern part of Costa Rica, close to the border with Nicaragua. A series of wetlands along the Agua Frio River, it is host to a wide variety of bird life in particular.

From our base in La Fortuna, we traveled to Caņo Negro both in 2005 and 2007.  In 2005, water levels were low and we explored the Agua Frio from the north down towards the reserve; in 2007 we had better water levels and were able to actually get into the reserve itself.
