Hello, and welcome to Marietta College!

I'm delighted that you have shown an interest in learning more about us and about the distinctive history that has made Marietta the outstanding institution it is today.

We have a long and proud tradition dating to the founding of Marietta, Ohio as a frontier settlement, and for more than two centuries the city and the College have grown up together. That enduring relationship contributes greatly to the special learning environment you'll experience for yourself should you decide to come calling in person. It's something my wife Diane and I sensed immediately when we first visited and motivated us to want to become a part of this wonderful community.

But, whether you "arrive" electronically or tour our beautiful campus on a bright and crisp autumn day, I am confident you'll discover very quickly that our roots run strong and deep in other important ways as well. Ever since receiving our charter from the State of Ohio in 1835, the College has been providing its students a strong foundation for a lifetime of leadership, critical thinking, and problem solving by offering undergraduates a contemporary liberal arts education and, more recently, graduate students a learning experience grounded in advanced knowledge and professional practice.

In either case, you will surely appreciate that everything we undertake is based upon a fundamental understanding that our ever-changing society and worldwide community demand we do much more than merely operate from a tried and true mission statement.

Challenging ourselves to remain responsive to what is happening around us is really a very exciting prospect and we tackle it in creative and exciting ways. Emphasizing such timely topics as energy and the environment, internationalism, leadership, and health and wellness, we are constantly exploring ways in which to include dynamic discussions of these issues across our curriculum. This allows us to stimulate a dialog and create learning experiences that embody the very best higher education has to offer today's committed students.

The result is a palpable sense of progress and momentum here at Marietta College. Enrollment continues to grow, our dedicated and talented faculty inspires our students to impressive levels of accomplishment, our facilities are among the finest anywhere, and our alumni deeply committed to, and involved with, their alma mater.

All in all, I think you've made an excellent choice to spend some time with us on our web site and I sincerely hope you will explore your interest further. I trust you will agree that Marietta College has much to offer.
